Frequently Asked Questions

Myopia, also known as nearsightedness or “minus number,” is a common vision condition in which you can see objects clearly up close, but distant objects appear blurry. This occurs because the eye is too long or the cornea is too curved, causing light to focus in front of the retina instead of directly on it.

Myopia typically develops during childhood and adolescence, often progressing until early adulthood. While glasses and contact lenses can correct blurred vision caused by myopia, they do not address the underlying cause or slow down its progression.

While correcting blurry vision is important, controlling the progression of myopia is crucial for long-term eye health. Higher levels of myopia are associated with an increased risk of developing serious eye conditions later in life, such as:

  • Retinal Detachment: Separation of the retina from the underlying tissue.

  • Glaucoma: Damage to the optic nerve, which can lead to vision loss.

  • Myopic Macular Degeneration: Damage to the macula, the central part of the retina.

  • Cataracts: Clouding of the natural lens of the eye.

By slowing down the progression of myopia in children, we can reduce their risk of developing these sight-threatening conditions in the future. This is why Myopia control becomes so important.
